"I've Been Here for Years. This Is Not My First System Transition."
When Lea Ferrara says that, it's not a boast. It's context.
As Office Manager at The Morris Companies, Lea has been the person who keeps the office running through leadership changes, market shifts, and more than one technology overhaul. So when it came time to finally replace the Avaya phone system the company had been running for nearly two decades, she knew what she was walking into.
"People don't like change," she says plainly.
Her job wasn't just to find a better phone system. It was to find one that would work for a team that had done things the same way for a long time, and make the switch as invisible as possible.
The Problem: A System the Vendor Walked Away From
The Morris Companies had been on their Avaya on-premise system for somewhere around 15 to 20 years. For most of that time, it did the job. But eventually, the vendor stopped showing up.
"We had some issues with our vendor. Didn't have any support for them," Lea says.
When the people responsible for maintaining your phone system are no longer reachable, it's not just an inconvenience. For a business running a main office in Rutherford, remote employees spread across home offices, and a location in Florida, reliable communication isn't optional.
Lea knew it was time. She started looking.
The Switch: Found on Google, Done in Two Meetings
Lea went looking for a cloud phone provider the same way most people start: a Google search.
"We knew we wanted to do some type of cloud because that's like the way to go right now," she says.
What she found was TeleCloud. Vin came in, sat down with Lea and Keith Morris, the VP, and walked them through what a move to TeleCloud would look like. Keith was comfortable. Lea was ready. A month or two later, the deal was done.
"Everything else was through email or a Zoom call," Lea says. "It was a no-brainer."
Before installation day, Daniel came out the week prior to assess the setup, understand what each person needed, and map out how to make the cutover work for a team that, as Lea put it, had some very specific opinions about the features they wanted.
"People wanted some old features, you know, pulling someone's phone without having to dial an extension. I mean, it's just ridiculous," she says, laughing. "But I tried to accommodate everybody's needs, and pretty much it was done instantly."
When Henry arrived for the installation, the groundwork was already laid.
"Henry was fabulous," she says.
What Changed: From Hell to Seamless
Lea has watched a lot of technology transitions. She knows what a bad one looks like. This one was different.
"The transition was seamless. No issues. Everything seems to be working," she says. "Keep your fingers crossed, but I will say I had zero issues."
The thing she was most worried about coming in? Not having a physical phone company behind it.
"I will tell you, I was obviously leery about it not being an actual telephone company, everything being TeleCloud," she says. "But I had zero issues."
Remote employees are connected through their home offices. The Florida location is up and running. And when a new employee came on board, the phone setup was handled the next day.
"The only thing I 110% need is if I ever go down, I want instantaneous service. Because I went from hell with what I had before."
Two months in, she's had nothing to worry about.
Two Months In
The Morris Companies activated service on June 17, 2026. Two months in, Lea would tell you the same thing she'd tell anyone considering making the switch.
"I would definitely recommend your team. They were very good for me."
For a company veteran who's seen more than a few transitions go sideways, that's the review that matters most.
When a Legacy System No Longer Has Your Back
The Morris Companies didn't wait for a crisis. They saw a vendor stepping away and made a decision before things got worse. That's not always how it goes.
If your phone system is older than it should be, or your vendor isn't showing up the way they used to, let's talk about what a clean transition looks like.
